Guildford Christmas Light Switch On 2019
As many of you know, smile 101 Specialist Orthodontist Centre were delighted to have the privilege of sponsoring Guildford Christmas Light Switch on Thursday 21st November.
Even the rain could not keep the people of Guildford away from seeing the big switch on. From 6am in the morning, vans were setting up big tv screens, cameras and checking all the bulbs were working for the big event in the evening. All afternoon there were various events on the High Street. Children could visit Father Christmas at the Tunsgate Quarter and there was live music from 3:30pm. Throughout the day, you could sense the atmosphere out on the high street. Patients coming into our practice were saying how ‘Christmassy’ it felt and lots of them were attending the event in the evening.
Eagle Radio were handing out flyers with our Christmas Special Offer on it, did you get yours? We had so many people mention our advert on the radio in the lead up the event.
The switch on was at 7pm and 10,000 of you lined the high street eagerly waiting to see Guildford lit up for Christmas. Our Practice Manager Chelsea said ‘It was the biggest turnout she has seen in years’ Children and adults were wrapped up in woolly hats, scarfs and gloves. The aroma of roasted chestnuts and warm mulled wine filled the air. There were two big screens meaning that wherever you stood on Guildford High Street you could see Peter Gordon from Eagle Radio broadcasting from the balcony at the Clock Tower. He had a line-up of guests such as Guildford’s Rock Choir, Students from the University of Surrey and the cast from this year’s Guildford Pantomime.
The countdown started and the crowd went silent as we were all waiting with bated breath for the high street to glow with bells and snowflakes. ‘I wish it could be Christmas everyday’ came blasting out of the speakers and everyone had a taste of what the big day will feel like in a few weeks. The fireworks were then catapulted into the sky to give the Guildford Switch on its unique selling point. There were ‘ooh’s and ah’s’ from the crowd as the fireworks catapulted into the sky.
It was a fun filled festive evening for everyone and we cannot wait until next year.
