Unfortunately, it’s already time to start thinking about getting ready for the back to school rush next month. We’ve put together this handy guide for you to use to ensure you don’t forget any important items for children with and without braces.
Back to school is also the perfect time to reboot some good household habits, like regular brushing, flossing and oral hygiene, whether your children wear braces or not.
Uniforms differ from school to school and ages, so you will need to check with the school for any specific items you need. Here is our list of basic items you can start putting together now.
- Polo shirts
- Coat, hat, scarf & gloves
- PE clothes, shorts, t-shirt, plimsols or trainers
- Swimming costume
- Remember to label ALL items of clothing to avoid replacing them every single term
The key to getting out the house on time for the school run? Organisation. Splitting back to school items into kits can help you keep a track of said items while also helping you get to grips with any new routines. You can break your ‘kits’ down like this:
- School supplies
- Extra warm clothing in winter, hats, scarfs, gloves etc
- Braces kit
- PE Clothes
- PE shoes
- Hairbands for long hair
- Sports guard – link to sports guard page
- Travel toothbrush
- Braces wax
- Swimming costume
- Swim cap
- Brace/Retainer case for removable braces if necessary
It’s very important to get a well-fitting sports guard for children who play contact sports like hockey and rugby. But, it’s also important for children who take part in lower impact activities like football, cricket, gymnastics and running to protect their teeth and mouth from damage.
The supplies your child will require to head back to school for the new term will also vary depending on the age of your child and the school they attend, so do make sure your check with the school before making any new purchases.
- Pencil case
- Glue stick
Other Things To Remember
It’s not just supplies, clothing and numerous activity kits you need to remember to sort out before they are back at school, you need to make sure you are on top of any paperwork that needs completing, school trips, any changes to hours or clubs and school dinners.
