You want to look perfect on your wedding day – and your hair is a big part of making you look a beautiful bride. So how can you get your hair ready for the big day?
Look for inspiration
Start your search for wedding hair inspiration early. You definitely don’t want to panic and choose a style in a hurry! After all, this is your big day, and you want to look gorgeous. Browse websites or magazines, ask your friends what they think would suit you, and actually, have a go at trying out styles.
It’s a good idea to start a Pinterest board or picture folder of wedding hair ideas you’ve found, otherwise you’ll never be able to find the pictures you liked when you want to go back to them. Don’t be afraid to delete pictures if you decide you’ve gone off the style; your board should be a work in progress and allow you to easily locate styles you’re interested in.
Have a trial run – or several!
This cannot be emphasised enough: try out a style well before the wedding. There’s enough to be dealing with in the immediate run up to the big day; you most definitely do NOT want to panic because your elaborate style isn’t going according to plan!
Having a trial run is also useful for seeing if a style suits you or not. However much you love a style, it’s important to remember that in a photo you’re seeing the look on someone else. If you really can’t wear that style, you can’t wear it – full stop. There are plenty more styles that will work for you, so find one.
Hair doesn’t have to be long
Brides often assume that if they have short hair, they need to wear it long for their wedding. If you have short hair and that’s the look that suits you, stick to it. Having extensions might risk making you look like you’re playing dress up.
Short hair can look just as amazing on a bride, and there are plenty of ways to make it look dressy. A wedding tiara, glittery hair clips, or highlights can add that bridal touch. Besides, you want to stand out at your wedding – and what better way of doing that than going against the long hair trend?
Be realistic
Every woman knows the disheartening experience of taking a photo into a salon, and exiting looking nothing like the girl in the picture. Wedding hairstyles are no exception. There are a lot of reasons why a style may look very different on you. Your face shape, hair texture, and hair colour all influence what the stylist has to work with – and that’s why we so often end up disappointed. So be realistic, and find a style that will suit you. Besides, why would you want to look like someone else?
Don’t make drastic changes in the run up to the wedding
Have you ever had “hair regrets”- where you’ve absolutely hated a cut and wished you’d never asked for it? If you have a drastic cut before your wedding and you don’t like it, there isn’t going to be time to grow your hair back. At best, you can have extensions – and that’s going to be expensive.
Hair takes months, even years to grow long, so this probably isn’t the time to make changes. If you think you might like it shorter, experiment with styles that give the illusion of short hair, or even try on wigs. But be very, very cautious of making major changes to your hairstyle when you’re going to get married!
Remember, although your hair might seem very important for your big day, don’t stress out too much about it. You’ll look beautiful whatever your hairstyle and your partner will certainly think so.
